Biographical summary
Dr. Okuyemi was hired to join the Mayo Clinic Otolaryngology Department in December 2024 as a Head and Neck oncologic and microvascular reconstructive surgeon. Prior to that, she had held a faculty position at the UNLV Department of Otolaryngology since 2016 when she was recruited out of fellowship to help develop and spearhead the oncologic & microvascular reconstruction program. She was the first active otolaryngology-trained microvascular surgeon in Nevada and only one of two otolaryngology surgeons actively providing this tertiary level of otolaryngologic care in the state. She is very passionate about providing the best oncologic care and adapting her reconstructive expertise to provide the best individualized outcome. Apart from her clinical duties as a head and neck surgeon, she served as the Patient Safety and Quality Improvement Officer for the UNLV Otolaryngology department. She also developed and served as the Director for the Microsurgery Training Laboratory Course held annually for residents. She received the UNLV Women In Medicine and Science Award to participate in the "2021 AAMC Leadership Development Seminar for Women Faculty in Medicine and Science". She was also elected to the role of Senior Senator for the UNLV School of Medicine, where she served as liaison between faculty, the Executive suite of the medical school, and the university at large through the Faculty Senate from 2020-2024. She also has been featured in the Las Vegas Magazine's "Women Transforming HealthCare in Southern Nevada". With her unique background, well-honed expertise and passion, Dr. Okuyemi plans to continue to serve as a bridge between the different arms of the clinical, research, and patient care Mayo missions to provide optimal care of the head and neck patient.
